Cynthia on Posterous

Here is where I ramble about working from home, writing for Squidoo, and designing for Zazzle & Cafepress.

Happy new year!

P1000259

My husband and I, along with my family, just got home from hearing New Year's Eve mass at the neighborhood chapel. I took my new camera along just to test its low-light picture-taking capacities and voila, it did not disappoint. Above is a photo I took of the chapel's facade. See how the Lumix LX3 was able to capture the vibrant colors in such fine detail without the use of a flash at all. Amazing, right? (I apologize for the profuse gushing, I really love my new camera).

On another note, here in my neck of woods 2010 is only 3 hours away so happy new year to anyone who may be reading this!

My dream camera - Panasonic Lumix LX3

My darling husband got me my dream camera for Christmas, a Panasonic Lumix LX3. I've been jonesing for this digicam for months since my old, battered Canon has been unreliable for quite a while now.

The Lumix takes the most brilliant photos. I'm not exactly the most adept photographer but take a peek at what I came up with these past few days and see how the camera can make even the simplest photograph look like a work of art.

1. Dinuguan, Filipino savory stew of blood and meat (typically stomach, intestines, ears, and snout) simmered in a rich, spicy gravy of pig blood, garlic, chili (most often siling mahaba), and vinegar.
2. Leche Flan (from leche, Spanish for milk) is a caramel custard, made with eggs, milk and sugar and flavored with vanilla.
3. A cinematic photo of my husband.
4. Congressional Avenue, Quezon City, Philippines.
5. Our dog, Milli.
6. My brother, his wife, and the family dogs.
7 & 8. Our marmalade kitty cat.

All Hopped Up On Jingle Bells: Indie Rock Christmas Music

To kick off Christmas Eve, hubby and I have started playing our Christmas mp3s. I haven't played mine in a year (of course) so I've quite forgotten how good they sound. And if you're into indie rock, you might want to check out this glorious holiday sampler I found on eMusic last year, called the 2008 Redeye Holiday Sampler. It's chock-full of great tunes, from interesting takes on traditional Christmas favorites to fresh, original tracks. Listen to one of my favorites (above).

Trying out Posterous / Merry Christmas everyone!

I hope this goes through... if it does,

Merry Christmas everybody! So how are you celebrating Christmas Eve tomorrow night? My husband Arnold and I are spending it Filipino style, just like we always have, with my parents, brother and my sister-in-law. We will go to my family's home where my mom has prepared a feast and then much later, we will walk to the neighborhood chapel and hear Christmas Eve mass, after which we will have Noche Buena (the traditional Christmas Eve midnight meal) consisting of ensaimada, suman, slices of ham and quezo de bola, and of course the much awaited (for me, that is) Tsokolate Eh made of Tablea Tsokolate. I love Tsokolate Eh so much that I made a page on Squidoo all about it: Thick and Rich Filipino Hot Chocolate. Visit the link to learn more about our native Filipino hot chocolate.

After Noche Buena, my husband and I will go home, open our gifts under the tree and spend time with our kitty before hieing over to his family's home to continue the Christmas day festivities.

How about you? How are you spending your Christmas Eve?

Photo 1: Our Noche Buena from Last Christmas. On my plate are an ensaimada (a kind of brioche), suman (glutinous rice cake wrapped in banana leaves), and Tsokolate Eh.
Photo 2: Trying my hand at making Tsokolate Eh
Photo 3: Our home companion making suman the way she learned it in her native Dumaguete, Philippines.
Photo 4: Suman, wrapped up in banana leaves.
Photo 5: Our kitty and our little Christmas tree.
